Cartridge Kit

K004 - Paper cartridge kit - Now here's the perfect project when teaching your manly little boy about how they used to go to war!  During the early colonial days all the way up through the post-Civil War days, muzzle-loading muskets and rifles required you to make paper cartridges to hold your powder and lead ball, to make the loading and firing easier when in the heat of battle.  Otherwise, you'd have to carefully measure it out of your powder horn, and that would take more time.  In this kit, we provide the materials, tools, and instructions for creating 8 paper cartridges.  Materials include:
-8 sheets of news-print style paper (often used for paper cartridges at the time)
   -8 wooden "musket balls"
-Wooden dowel with a concave end to make the paper crimp
-Enough "gunpowder" (black sand) for 8 cartridges
   -Spare paper for wadding
During the Revolution, two common muskets encountered were the .75 caliber Brown Bess and the .69 caliber Charleville.  Accordingly, we offer two different size kits, one in .75 caliber (which would have been a snug fit for the Brown Bess, as they usually used musket balls slightly smaller than the diameter of the barrel), and .62 caliber (probably the size of most musket balls fired from the Charleville musket).  Don't forget to let us know which caliber you'd prefer when ordering!
